Before becoming a successful singer who she is today, Lady Gaga was just Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, a woman struggling to get ahead in the world of entertainment, which included working as a stripper. But, the emergence of social networks has made her one of the biggest celebrities around the world.

The speed at which the number of Twitter users — who had decided to follow Lady Gaga on the social network — has grown is shocking. The singer accumulates thousands of new followers per day. And, the eccentric singer took another step in her career by becoming the only person in the world to have more than 30 million followers on Twitter.

In her Twitter profile, the 26-year-old artist now has more than 30,102,348 followers, ahead of other singers such as Justin Bieber (28 million), Katy Perry (27 million) and Rihanna (26 million). Last March, Lady Gaga arrived at the figure of 20 million followers and has added another 10 million in just seven months.

Paving the way for other stars on social media, Lady Gaga often interacts with her fans and has even set up her own social network for the Little Monsters, with thousands of regular users, commented Starcount.com.

“But, it is Twitter that has given her the incredible social popularity that she currently has,” it added in a blog, noting that her Twitter takeover started two years ago when she passed Ashton Kutcher, Barack Obama and Spears.

Since then, her domination on the network has gone unmatched — she was the first person to reach 10 million and 20 million followers, and is keeping up the trend now with 30 million.

The secret of her success on the Internet is closely linked with the constant personal attention she gets and the relationship the singer has with her “monsters,” as she calls her fans.

But not everything has been rosy for Gaga because, on several occasions, there has been speculation about the veracity of the Twitter accounts that follow the artist. Recently, a study of the company Status People said that about 70% of supporters that have Lady Gaga on the microblogging network would be inactive or abandoned accounts.

Currently, Twitter has more than 500 million members worldwide. However, recent records show that only between 140 and 170 million members are using this social network and messaging services on a regular basis.
