The world’s largest social network Facebook will stop supporting the “Questions” on the pages of users, but leave the possibility of its use in the groups and the public pages of companies and brands.
Facebook Questions was launched in 2010 and allows for surveys of user’s friends, members or subscribers of official page of the brand. The reason for removing features from the page people is lack of popularity.
“Millions of people ask their friends questions on Facebook every day. What new music should I listen to? Where’s the best sushi place in town? How do I learn to play the piano?,” Blake Ross, Director of Product at Facebook, wrote at the time.
”Today we’re introducing Facebook Questions, a beta product that lets you pose questions like these to the Facebook community. With this new application, you can get a broader set of answers and learn valuable information from people knowledgeable on a range of topics.”
About two years of existence, Questions could not attract enough attention of the Facebook audience. According to report, Facebook will gradually remove the tab from the pages of all users.
A representative of the social network is expressed in an email to adjourn the service: “Yes, starting today, we are going to begin removing the Questions feature from the composer for users. The removal will happen over the course of a couple of days. Pages and groups will still have the Questions functionality, and users can still access all past Questions and answers. We’re choosing to focus our efforts elsewhere.”
Zuckerberg himself said Facebook is now concentrating on answering questions through search option. So instead of pooling about what the best movie for the weekend, you could just search “best weekend movie” on Facebook. By looking at your geographical location, check-ins of your friends, the whole Facebook base and your Likes, search will answer your question.
Zuckerberg has discussed in the recent past, having said, “I think that search engines are really evolving toward a giving you a set of answers. It’s not just like, ‘type in something, show me some relevant stuff,’ its, ‘I have a specific question, answer this question for me.’ And when you think about it from that perspective, Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer a lot of questions people have through search.”
